“For 200 years, the townspeople of the rural Ukranian village of Kulyenchikov have been cursed to live as fools. When the optimistic young schoolteacher, Leon Tolchinsky, arrives, he becomes determined to break the curse by educating Sophia, a kind but dim-witted young woman he quickly falls in love with. As Leon struggles against the villagers’ absurd logic and the looming deadline before he too becomes foolish, he must confront both his rival for Sophia’s affection, the eccentric Count Gregor, last remaining descendent of the sorcerer who curse the town, as well as the truth of who he, himself, happens to be.”
